Note taking app for Windows

Scripta

A notebook that lives on your computer. No account, no ads, and it only sends something to the internet if you turn on Google Drive sync.

Download for Windows

Version 1.12.0 · 15.0 MB · Windows 10 and 11. Installs without asking for an administrator password.

Windows will complain the first time

The installer is not digitally signed. Signing costs a yearly fee that this app does not pay yet. So Windows shows a blue screen saying it protected your PC. To install anyway:

  • Click More info, in the middle of the blue screen.
  • Click Run anyway, on the button that appears below.

What it does

Writing
Bold, lists, checkboxes, tables, code blocks and images in the middle of the text, which you can resize. The first line of the note becomes its title on its own.
Finding it later
Folders and subfolders, tags and a search that ignores accents and capitals, across notes or inside the open note, with Ctrl+F. A map draws how your notes connect. Also reminders, archive and trash.
Not losing it
Manual backup in a single file, export to PDF, TXT or image, a password per note and a lock for the whole app. None of that costs, and none of it ever will.

Where your notes live

In a folder of your user account, on your own machine. If you uninstall the app, they stay there. Scripta has no server and creates no account, so there is nowhere to send them. If you want the same notes on your phone, you connect your own Google account (notes go straight to a Scripta folder in your Drive, never through us) or pick a folder of your own cloud (OneDrive, Dropbox) and the two devices talk through it.

The app is free. Syncing across devices, tabs, automatic backup and note customization come with Scripta Pro, a one-time purchase that is not on sale yet.
